Germany is forcing all of Europe to conclude a pact with Russia

On Saturday, the Minister of Economy and Climate, Robert Habeck, spoke indignantly at the attempt to “green” nuclear energy. Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit announced on Monday unequivocally: “We clearly reject judgments about nuclear energy.” At the same time, however, he welcomed the European Commission’s proposals to classify gas as a sustainable energy source under certain conditions. This is “in line with the position of the federal government,” reminds the Welt daily. “It’s hard to understand such an assessment of the federal government.” – notes the newspaper.

The decision of the European Commission “to promote gas as a bridge technology seems much more problematic, both from the point of view of climate policy and geopolitics, than the EU decision to favor nuclear energy, criticized by the German government,” writes Welt.

“The turmoil in Germany is artificial” – says environmental expert Ralf Fuecks to Welt. After all, everyone, including the European Commission, “knows that a climate compromise at European level is only possible if both competing pathways of climate change are taken into account. On the one hand, we have a special German path of using gas as a medium-term substitute for coal and nuclear energy. and on the other hand, the path favored especially by the French, consisting in achieving climate neutrality with a significant share of nuclear energy “- emphasizes the daily.
