Everyone can see the Google Play Store on computers as it is. Quite ugly and out of step with what Google offers on Android devices. It seems that these are the last moments of his present appearance. A little revolution is in the making.
Google Play is primarily associated with Android mobile devices. It is thanks to him that you can download games and applications, install updates, buy movies and digital books. In recent years, Google has significantly changed the appearance and functionality of the store. Although at first it was hard to get used to the changes, now I think that I would not be able to go back to the old version.
Google Play is constantly changing and evolving offering additional tools. It is enough to mention the privacy labels that will soon appear in the store and will force developers to share information about the collection and processing of user data by the application and what permissions they need to operate. However, the mobile version of the Play store is one thing – Google also has its computer version. And although the company seems to have forgotten about it, expect a small revolution in the near future.
Without major announcements, Google refreshes the computer version of the Play store so that it looks like the experience known from mobile devices. It should be minimalistic, comfortable and, above all, functional. And after a few minutes with the refreshed shop, I know that it is much better than before. Of course, you will have to get used to the changes.
What changed? First of all, the graphic design has been refreshed. Google got rid of the “heavy” sidebar referring to specific product categories: Entertainment, Application, Movies, Books. These have been moved to the top of the page, where you will be able to easily switch between them. Games have been extracted from the application. They will not mix with other programs anymore. The Play Store on the computer will now allow you to easily select the type of device for which you are looking for a specific item.
New Google Play Store on computers. What changed?
So you can choose a phone, tablet, TV, Chromebook, watch and even a car with Android Auto. The store displays the Top lists for each category: Popular, Most Profitable and Best Paid. There are also recommendations and a more detailed division into subcategories. The store offers quick access to Tools, Entertainment, Recently Updated or New Applications. Navigation in the refreshed Google Play on your computer is simple and pleasant. Google has moved away from the existing tiles and replaced them with enlarged icons for games and applications. They are accompanied by the category, rating and price – if they are payable.
The product page of games, applications and other digital content available on Google Play has also changed. The full-screen card with basic information is clear and easy to use. Screenshots, opinions and reviews, the ability to install directly from your computer and contact with the developer are visible and in the foreground. Everything at hand, without having to search and maneuver through additional pages.
The new Google Play on computers is currently only available in selected markets. You will see the refreshed look, among others in the Korean version of the store. When will it reach us? This is not known. All you need to do is be patient and wait for it to be released on a large scale in the coming weeks. How do you like it?
