Travis Kelce did not play in the Kansas City Chiefs’ win over the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, but was still a major talking point later in the night. Why?
At the just-concluded Golden Globe Awards, comedian Joe Coy joked:
“Big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? Taylor Swift gets less shots at the Golden Globes.”
It was considered a thinly veiled reference to the tight end’s widely reported relationship with pop star Taylor Swift, which their fans didn’t quite understand:
Why did Travis Kelce sit out Week 18 even though he was close to reaching 1,000 yards for a ninth straight season?
As Week 18 approached, the Chiefs made the tactical decision to rest Patrick Mahomes so he could refocus on the playoffs. But for Travis Kelce, there’s still one more goal to achieve: 1,000 yards receiving.
So it was surprising to find him on the bench when defending Super Bowl champion Harrison Butker’s late field goal sealed a 13-12 victory at SoFi Stadium. When asked why, head coach Andy Reid said (via Sports Illustrated):
“He was a humble, humble man.”
Blake Bell had just one catch for three yards in the nine-time Pro Bowler’s absence. The only touchdown of the game came from an Easton Stick fumble that was returned 97 yards by Mike Edwards.
Could Travis Kelce and brother Jason meet again in the Super Bowl?Donna’s mother responded
With the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles making the playoffs again, some are wondering if Travis and Jason Kelce will meet again in the Super Bowl. Their mother, Donna, told Entertainment Tonight’s Nichelle Turner:
“No, I think getting back to the Super Bowl is hard enough. But I really think it’s going to be difficult this year, and the team … has a lot of equality. So, we’ll see what happens.”
To do that, the Chiefs must first get former wide receiver Tyreek Hill back with the Miami Dolphins on Saturday at Arrowhead (exclusively on Peacock). Meanwhile, the Eagles travel to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday (on ESPN and ABC).
