If you play Minecraft on Xbox One or Series X|S, you only need to purchase the base game or have an active Xbox Game Pass subscription to enjoy the preview. From there, just hop over to the Microsoft Store and download the preview version directly. It will exist as a standalone program from the base game to avoid world corruption or other issues.

You can download preview version 1.20.60.26 by following these steps:

  1. Open Microsoft Store from the dashboard.
  2. Open the search field and type “Minecraft Preview”, then press Enter and open the program’s store page.
  3. Click the Download button, which should be available if you purchased the base game or have an active Game Pass subscription.

Depending on whether you have previously installed a preview version of Minecraft, there are different ways to access the preview version for the first time or update to the latest version. If this is your first time installing, you can use the game’s official launcher to do this. Otherwise, you can use the Microsoft Store to update existing preview files to version 1.20.60.26.

You can perform both procedures by following these steps:

  1. If you are installing for the first time, open the Minecraft Launcher and select the Windows version. Next to the Install/Play button, click the Latest Version button and select Latest Preview, then click the Install button.
  2. If you already have a previous preview version installed, open the Microsoft Store app on your computer and navigate to your library. Find Preview in the program list and click the Update button. If it doesn’t appear, you can also click the “Get Updates” button to get new updates released by Mojang.

Android/iOS devices

If you play Minecraft on a mobile phone (which many people still consider Pocket Edition), the process for installing the preview will depend on your operating system. Android users will need to use the app’s Google Play Store page, while Apple users can check out the Testflight app and specific website to preview the app.

In either case, you can download the latest preview version by following these steps:

  1. On Android, open the Google Play Store and navigate to Minecraft’s store page. Scroll down the store page and click the link below the “Join Beta” category. If needed, update your game app and the next time you open it, it should open the latest preview instead of the base game.
  2. On iOS, download the Apple Testflight app if you haven’t already. Next, head to Apple’s Testflight page to preview and sign up for the beta. They tend to fill up quickly, so you may need to revisit the page periodically to have a chance of getting in. Anyway, after registering, go back to the Testflight app’s homepage and you should be able to run the preview.

From here, if your device has previews enabled, your previews should update automatically. However, if you’re using the Windows version, you may still need to go back to the Microsoft Store app to update every time Mojang releases a preview of a new version.
