The usually well-informed Deadline website reports that Josh Hartnett will play in Christopher Nolan’s new film. Producing the film to play “Oppenheimer” joined studio Universal has not yet commented on the news.
The film “Oppenheimer” tells about the so-called the godfather of the atomic bomb, J. Robert Oppenheim. Cillian Murphy will play the title role, and he will be partnered by, among others Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, and Rami Malek. The plot will focus on the work on the so-called Manhattan Project, the effect of which was the creation of a technology enabling the production of nuclear energy and its use for the production of a new type of weapon. Nolan’s script for the film was based on the themes of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer. The premiere of the film “Oppenheimer” is scheduled for July 21, 2023, two weeks after another anniversary of the dropping of the first atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
Deadline, which announced that Josh Hartnett has joined the cast of the film “Oppenheimer”, does not specify what role he will play. Florence Pugh is known to play the role of Jean Tatlock, a Communist Party member who has got into an affair with Oppenheimer. Benny Safdie will play the role of a Hungarian scientist Edward Teller, known as the “father of the American hydrogen bomb”. It is not known what characters will be played by the other actors associated with the cast of the film “Oppenheimer”.
Josh Hartnett gained popularity due to roles in such film shows as “Helicopter on fire” and “Pearl Harbor”. In later years, he appeared on the screen less often. He returned in the series “House of Horror”, and in the last year he made a home with Guy Ritchie – he starred in his film “One Angry Man” and “The Game of Fortune” awaiting the premiere. (PAP Life)
