The countdown lasted a month, and today it finally comes to an end. The Kia Sportage SUV is in fact arriving in Italian dealerships starting from January 15th. This is the fifth generation of a hugely successful model for the House. It is Kia’s best-selling SUV, this variant was created specifically for the European market, with the intention of setting new benchmarks in the SUV segment in Europe.

What we can say is that it comes with an exterior design that goes beyond the traditional stylistic canons, it is today a car elegant – but at the same time sporty – and offers its customers an interior that blends high-tech technologies and contemporary style.

The new Kia Sportage was built on the basis of the new “N3” platform, it is the result of a rigorous and careful development program at an engineering level, which aims to satisfy the highest expectations of European motorists on driving pleasure and comfort. A new meticulous approach that allows us to offer an SUV that perfectly meets European standards, in particular for its practicality and versatility of daily use.

As for the engines, the latest generation hybrid engines they have been designed to further improve the potential of the new European generation of Sportage, drastically reducing emissions, and at the same time increasing fuel economy. The plug-in hybrid version (PHEV) is the absolute novelty of the range, it offers the possibility to travel most of the daily transfers, for work or pleasure, in pure electric mode. The fifth generation of Sportage also includes a high-tech hybrid variant (HEV) and two mild-hybrid (MHEV) petrol or diesel engines in its range. But let’s see everything there is to know.

The advanced powertrains at the heart of new Sportage

The House presents a complete range of 100% electrified powertrains, thanks to state-of-the-art hybrid units and clean internal combustion (ICE) petrol and diesel engines with the latest generation mild hybrid technology.

Kia has decided to make these changes to Sportage’s engine range, to make it one of the most efficient SUVs on the market. Developed on the advanced platform that allows the use of electrified powertrains, both HEV and PHEV models transform the new Sportage into an SUV highly ecological.

All three models hybrids of the Sportage range – HEV, PHEV and one of the two MHEV derivatives – feature Kia’s award-winning 1.6-liter T-GDI engine, a high-tech four-cylinder. For the Sportage Plug-in Hybrid version, the turbo engine is flanked by a 66.9 kW electric motor served by a 13.8 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery. The combination of the two engines brings the total power delivered by the plug-in version to 265 hp.

Kia Sportage is also offered in the version diesel, with an innovative, highly efficient 1.6-liter clean engine, capable of delivering 136 hp. Thanks to the Mild Hybrid 48 V technology it can boast reduced emissions and greater efficiency.

Unmatched driving experience

The new Sportage SUV was built on Kia’s new “N3” platform, each component is designed and developed to further raise the level of the car, which in previous generations has already been the company’s best seller.

Today on the SUV we find an absolute novelty: the unprecedented Terrain Mode. Developed for off-road enthusiasts, it automatically adjusts the Sportage settings for maximum traction on any terrain and in any environment.

Everything is created to offer maximum comfort and habitability for everyone.

Inside we find the new integrated curved display, with touchscreen and sporty profile air intakes; extends to the front, giving the cabin an unrivaled width and depth. The 12.3-inch high-tech touchscreen and multifunction touch display are the center for connectivity and diverse driver and passenger functionality.

Passive and active safety technologies

It is one of the cars that we can define among the safest in its class. In developing the new European generation of Kia’s iconic SUV, the House has paid particular attention to this fundamental aspect. There are many safety restraint systems, including driver airbags, passenger airbags, side curtain airbags, front seat center airbags and low side airbags.

The innovative design of the fifth generation Kia Sportage

New parameters in design, that give the fifth generation of Kia’s iconic SUV a dynamic and commanding presence on the road. Unveiled earlier this year and greeted with great enthusiasm, the brand’s new design philosophy – Opposites United – is an important foundation of Sportage, influencing every aspect and character.

The front of the SUV impresses with the black grille that extends across the entire width. The front view is decisive and important, thanks to a game of mesh joints obtained with a technique that brings together the main components. The extended grille highlights the Tiger Nosealong with futuristic boomerang-shaped LED DRL (Daytime Running Lights) badges, which act as a support for the Matrix LED headlights, also known as the Intelligent Front Lighting System.

The profile lateral stays true to its authentic athletic SUV DNA with taut lines that cross clean, refined body surfaces. The addition of a chrome beltline, extended to the rear of the new Sportage, creates harmonious lines with the rear spoiler and enhances the sporty appearance of the car.

To the rear the SUV maintains its strong presence on the road thanks to a large and powerful structure. The headlights have a precise cut and are connected with a thin horizontal line that gives the car a very important presence, even when viewed from behind. With the new generation of Sportage, the two-tone color scheme with a black roof in contrast with the body makes its debut in Europe. Depending on specification and trim, the new Sportage is fitted with top-of-the-range 17, 18 or 19-inch wheels, with the ability to choose from six different designs, colors and finishes.

The fifth generation of Sportage designed and developed for Europe will be in Italy next year, starting from January 15th. The official price is not yet known, it could start from around 29,900 euros.
