The media in the United States have been writing about this event for weeks. Preparations for it began many months ago, taking into account the safety regulations for organizing receptions during the outbreak. Nearly 500 guests were to come to the holiday estate of Barack and Michelle Obama on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. It was there that a three-day party was scheduled to celebrate the 60th birthday of the 44th president of the United States.
The ranks of the former first pair were thwarted by Delta. In the face of growing infection statistics and media criticism, it was decided to reduce the number of visitors. Many invited – as reported by “New York Times” – just before the event found out that they will not be able to participate in the event. Some of them include Oprah Winfrey and director Ava DuVernay backed out due to concerns over Covid-19. Ultimately, 300-400 people attended the party.
Meghan taunted Elizabeth II? The royal expert is in no doubt
Invitations to Obama’s birthday have been received by the biggest stars of show business who are friends with the former US first couple. The guest list includes, among others Chrissy Teigen with her husband John Legend, actress Gabrielle Union, basketball player Dwyane Wade, rocker Bruce Springsteen, Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z, actors Tom Hanks, Bradley Cooper, Don Cheadle, and directors Spike Lee and Steven Spielberg. The fronts were also to appear at the eventn Pearl Jam Eddie Vedder and singer Alicia Keys. As reported by “The Sun”, a dear friend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the presenter Gayle King and Georg and Amal Clooney, who had fun at their wedding, were also invited to the event.
Meghan Markle wanted to be a special guest of Barack Obama?
Initially the media wrote that Harry and Meghan were also among the exclusive group of people invited by Barack Obama to his birthday. And they fall on the same day as Markle’s birthday. The Sussexs, however, decided to stay in California to celebrate the Duchess’ 40 at home.
However, according to “The Sun” Meghan and Harry were not to receive an invitation at all! Royal Expert Angela Levin says that the duchess “desperately wanted to be the special guest” of the ex-president. When she found out the Obamas didn’t want them at their party, she was devastated – reports “The Sun”.
Levin believes that the Obamas decided not to invite the couple out of respect for Queen Elizabeth II and for fear of tarnishing their image. The Daily Telegraph points out that the affront of the former first couple is due to an interview between Harry and Meghan given to Opra Winfrey. The couple is supposed to bet on family values and they did not like the fact that they publicly attacked their relatives.

The Obamas are angry with Meghan and Harry for copying their initiatives?
Levin speaks in a similar vein, pointing to how warmly the Obamas spoke about the Queen and Prince Philip. In her first meeting with Elizabeth II, Michelle Obama made a huge blunder and hugged the monarch, but the queen forgave her this tactlessness. He and Filip liked the Obamas so much that they invited them to lunch at Windsor Castle. Few heads of state have received such an honor.
William and Kate also have a very good relationship with the former first couple. The photos taken during the Obama visit to the UK in 2016 have gone down in history. They were then invited to the apartment of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, where they met little Jerzy.
Meghan Markle’s stepbrother does not have the best opinion of her. “She is very shallow”
But the Obamas – as Levin points out – may have cut themselves off from Meghan and Harry for another reason as well. The couple might not like the Sussex copying their initiatives. Markle announced on her birthday a mentoring program for unemployed women she called “40×40”. In her birthday video, she appealed to famous women (including Adel) to join the project and devote 40 minutes of their time to mentoring women who cannot find a job.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of his birthday, Barack Obama launched the “60×60” project, asking for donation of 60 or even 600 dollars for a good cause. This list includes, among others a program for the poor for girls that his wife created as part of their foundation. (Tseo / hs)
