Every human being is unique, but with over 7 billion people on Earth, it’s no surprise that some of us may occasionally come face to face with an extraordinary look-alike.
The strange resemblance of a woman to a celebrity has thrilled the internet. In March of this year, Stephanie Amick of Indianapolis, Indiana shared a video on TikTok in which she revealed her incredible resemblance to actress Elisabeth Moss.
With over 2 million views, TikTok users were amazed. “OMG. Gemini, ”said one viewer of the viral video.
Elisabeth Moss found fame in the AMC series Mad Men, and most recently starred in a world-famous series The Handmaid’s Tale. The 39-year-old actress has won three Critics’ Choice Awards, two Golden Globes and two Primetime Emmy Awards.
Amick said News week: “I remember posting a photo of myself while on vacation in 2017, a month after The Handmaid’s Tale began airing. Several family members and friends began to comment that I looked like Elisabeth Moss, so it was the first time I heard the comparison. “
“I actually thought it was her,” said a commentator on the TikTok viral video. Another viewer said: “You look more like her than her.”
Approached by a fan
One day, while Amick was shopping at her local grocery store, a woman stopped her and said, “Sorry but I have to ask you, are you Elisabeth Moss?”
“Of course I told her I wasn’t and she said she was wondering why I should have grocery shopping alone,” explained Amick: “Since then, I usually get feedback often when new episodes are released. I am very flattered by the comparison. She is obviously a talented and beautiful actress, so it’s hard not to be ”.
To create the now viral image, Amick used a popular TikTok filter that allows users to merge their faces into an image. The Shapeshifting filter has been used in the video sharing app more than 940,000 times to create videos of their celebrity impersonators.
Elsewhere online, finding your celebrity doppelgänger is a popular pastime, with sites and apps using AI facial recognition software to match people to a celebrity face.
“I was sitting in my car after a run waiting for an order on the sidewalk and scrolling through TikTok when I saw various similar trending videos,” explained Amick. “To appease my curiosity I decided to record a shapeshifter in her. Once I did, I did I thought ‘wow, ok, I kind of look like her’, so I posted it. “
Within minutes, Amick got tons of notifications and months later he claims he still sees likes and comments on the video every day.
“If I had thought for a second that it was going to get the opinions it got, I would have at least put some makeup on,” he joked: “But the reactions have mostly been flattering and comical references to the show. I enjoyed reading them. “
A TikTok commentator exclaimed, “You look just like her,” while other viewers referred The Handmaid’s Tale and he wrote: “Praise be” and “Blessed be the fruit”.
