Peacock works on a TV series based on the mainstay film of the 90s

The 90s are reconfirmed as one of the most fascinating decades to be revisited on TV in recent times: the latest cult classic ready to be reinterpreted is Young, cute and unemployed. The streaming video service Peacock is developing a TV series based on the 1994 film that featured – among others – Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke And Ben Stillerthe latter also a director (not involved, for the moment, in this new project).

The potential new series is described as a “reformulation” of the film and involves the original screenwriter Helen Childress. Young, cute and unemployed (in original Reality Bites) tells the story of four friends who, after finishing their studies, find themselves catapulted into the world of adults and venture together in search of their first job. “As the world around them is on the verge of a sea change, they struggle to remain themselves and be there for each other,” reads the official description of the potential TV series. It is unclear, however, whether it will be set in the 1990s or in the present day.

In the romantic comedy Winona Ryder played Lelaina, Ethan Hawke was her loafer friend Troy, Janeane Garofalo it was Vickie and Steve Zahn it was Sammy. Ben Stiller, in addition to directing, starred in the role of Lelaina’s yuppie love interest, Michael. The new project also involves Jenna Bans (who worked with Childress on the NBC series Good Girls) as executive producer, as well as producers of the film Michael Shamberg, Stacey Sher and Danny DeVito.
