STARZPLAY, STARZ’s international premium streaming service, announced today that it has acquired rights from NBC Universal Television for the series Queer as Folk for distribution in Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Latin America, Luxembourg, Spain, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries and Great Britain. The eight-episode series will premiere in the UK on Friday 1 July and then exclusively in Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Latin America, Luxembourg, Spain, the Netherlands and the Nordic countries. Sunday 31 July with two new episodes every week.

Produced by UCP, a division of the Universal Studio Group, Queer as Folk is a lively retelling of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies (It’s A Sin, Doctor Who), which tells of a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

The original series Queer as Folk has really opened new horizons in the television space and that innovative spirit aligns perfectly with the daring, unique and complex stories typical of the STARZPLA price listY, ”said Jeff Cooke, Senior Vice President of Programming, International Networks. “We are thrilled to have the 2022 remake of Queer as Folk exclusively and we can’t wait for our audiences to enjoy all the episodes this summer.“.

The series stars Devin Way (Grey’s Anatomy) as Brodie, Fin Argus (The Gifted) as Mingus, Jesse James Keitel (Big Sky) as Ruthie, CG as Shar, Johnny Sibilly (Hacks) as Noah and Ryan O’Connell (Special) in the role of Julian. Ryan O’Connell is also the writer and co-executive producer of the series.

This season’s guest stars include Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City) as Brenda, Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets, Cape Fear) as Judy, Ed Begley Jr (Better Call Saul, A Mighty Wind – Friends for music) as Winston, Armand Fields (Work in Progress) as Bussey, Chris Renfro (Reno 911!) as Daddius, Eric Graise (Step Up: High Water) as Marvin, Sachin Bhatt (Grace & Frankie) as Ali, Benito Skinner as Jack Cole Jordan, Nyle DiMarco (dancing with the Stars), Lukas Gage (The White Lotus, Love, Victor) as Eric, Megan Stalter (Hacks) as Meg, Olli Haaskivi (Manifest) as George and Calvin Seabrooks (4400) like Taylor.

Stephen Dunn created, wrote and executive produced the series and directed numerous episodes, including the pilot. Jaclyn Moore (Dear White People, Love Life) she is also a screenwriter and executive producer. Lee Eisenberg (WeCrashed, The Office), Emily Brecht (Turnt, Smilf), creator of the original British series Russel T. Davies, Nicola Shindler (It’s A Sin, Finding Alice) and Louise Pedersen are also producers on behalf of All3 Media International, which distributed both the original series produced by Red Productions for Channel 4 and this new reimagining. Brian Dannelly is executive producer and has directed several episodes.
