Renault continues to celebrate 50 years of the iconic Renault 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, and it does so with a new showcar, deliberately exaggerated. Her name is R5 Turbo 3Ejust to pay homage to the historical model, but the 3 indicates the continuation of the family, and the E stands for the inevitable electric.
So, even in the celebrations, the French house continues with the steps of the “Renaulution”, the road towards total electrification by 2030. Returning to the R5 Turbo 3E, a rear-wheel drive car designed for the driftingwith setting for only two seats.
At the rear is the thruster, with two electric motors, one per wheelcapable of delivering up to 280 kW of power (380 hp), with a torque of 700 Nm available at zero rpm. All this mounted on a tubular frame, with flat bottom and FIA approved safety roll bar.
The car can then reach the speed of 100 km / h in 3.5 seconds, which rises to 3.9 in drift mode. The battery has a capacity of 42 kWh and, despite the atypical layout of the car, always in the center of the floor.
The R5 Turbo 3E also stands out inside, with numerous supports for fixing video cameras or action cameras, but also with the instrumentation, which incorporates the ten analog dials that were in front of the driver, which are now made with displays. Finally, the showcar also looks to the virtual world, with one digital version that will run in the metaverse. One will also be proposed collection of NFT related to the car, and owners of these digital assets will be offered exclusive rewards and benefits. the brand will present the world premiere of the R5 Turbo 3E as part of the Chantilly Arts et lgance 2022 elegance contest (Department of Oise, France), which will be held on 25 September, and subsequently, starting from 17 October, at the 2022 Paris Motor Show.
