Rupert Friend is proud of the onscreen marriage he and Sienna Miller created in Anatomy of a Scandal.
The Homeland actor plays James Whitehouse, an MP who will be tried on a rape charge, alongside Sienna as his wife Sophie Whitehouse and Michelle Dockery as prosecutor Kate Woodcroft, in the new Netflix miniseries.
Rupert felt fortunate to work with actress Layer Cake as she was able to depict the tensions of a troubled marriage on screen as well as let loose off camera.
“I was very, very lucky to have in Siena not only a wonderful leading lady, but also a good friend with whom I was able to laugh and explore these themes,” he told reporters during the London Prima show. “So, we were fighting like cats and dogs in the movie (sic), but in the meantime we were just having a little fun. It gave us a much needed break in the tension.”
The Pride and Prejudice actor told Cover Media that he’s very proud of their realistic portrayal of a marriage in crisis.
“(I’m proud of) having that relationship with Siena, that marriage and the nuances of a couple actually having a great relationship, it’s just built on a very problematic lie — or two,” she shared. “So build that marriage and make it not all Hallmark paper honeydew and not just fight each other but somewhere in between, where there’s still love even through the tragedy. I think Sienna and I are pretty proud that we pulled those things.”
Anatomy of a Scandal, also starring Naomi Scott, is now streaming on Netflix.
