The EU is preparing a whip for dishonest internet giants. The new regulations will cover Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon

The EP Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection said Tuesday in favor of sanctions against internet giants who use unfair practices. The new regulations assume that the European Commission will conduct market investigations in this matter.

The regulation will apply to companies such as Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. On Tuesday, the EP committee adopted the bill with 42 votes in favor, two against and one abstention. According to the proposed regulations, if a company does not comply with EU competition law, the Commission will be able to impose it on it financial penalties in the amount of “not less than 4 percent. and not more than 20 percent. ” total world turnover.

“The EU is in favor of competition, but we don’t want bigger companies to get bigger and bigger at the expense of consumers and the European economy. It is clear today that competition rules alone cannot solve all the problems faced by technology giants. The Digital Markets Act will rule out these practices, sending a clear signal to all consumers and businesses in the Single Market: the rules are made by the collaborators, not by private companies! ” – said the project’s rapporteur, MEP Andreas Schwab (EPP).
