The Resident, Emily VanCamp is set to return for the season 5 finale

As TVLine reports, Emily VanCamp will return to The Resident in the finale of the show’s fifth season. The actress bowed out earlier in the season and now she’s set to reprise her role in a few scenes, co-showrunner Peter Elkoff confirmed in the last few hours.

“He will appear in four, maybe five scenes” of flashbacks during the season finale on May 17, which will serve as a narrative tool to help Conrad leave his bond with Nic and embark on a romance with another woman: Billie (Jessica Lucas) or Cade (Kaley Ronayne). Emily VanCamp star of The Resident left the scene several episodes ago now but her return will be very particular.

“Conrad still hasn’t been able to find new love. He knows he’s still stuck in the past, in a way, with Nic” Elkoff said “In the first part of episode 23 he realizes that he has to leave it behind and he doesn’t know quite how to do it. He gets some good advice about it. And he basically revolves around the memory of the night Gigi was born. He keeps coming back to the fragments of that night because he is convinced that the answer to how he can go on is in that night… And he reaches an awareness that frees him, in a certain way”.

Elkoff explained the reasoning that was put forward being written:“We thought, what would imprison a person? Well, the love of his life who passed away. The mother of his young daughter. We had to find a way to free him and end that chapter. Emily was really excited to be back , so we built his story around that idea”.

In 2020 The Resident was broadcast on Rai Premium with the first season. From season 5 the series is available on Disney+.
