– It’s wonderful that you are with us and we trust that you will be with us when the jumps are at home, that is on Polish Television. Everywhere is good, but it’s best at home – said Maciej Kurzajewski on Friday, ending the broadcast of qualifying for the World Cup competition in Wisła.
The fans did not like this statement, because it speaks of the bitterness of Polish Television after losing the rights to broadcast the World Cup competition to TVN. The competitions in Wisła and Zakopane are an exception (under the agreement between TVP and the Polish Ski Association).
Marek Szkolnikowski, director of TVP Sport, decided to add to the furnace in this discussion. On Saturday morning, he published a controversial post on social media.
“The home of ski jumping was, is and will be Polish Television. The situation from this season is a temporary political whim. I wish the fans patience, peace and trust. We know what we are doing, everything under control. Meanwhile, many positive emotions during the weekend in Wisła” – we read on Twitter .
Polish Television has been broadcasting jumps for a long time, contributing to the popularization of this discipline in the country. In recent years, it has been sublicensing it from the Discovery group. Before the 2021/22 season, she decided to end her cooperation with TVP.
Discovery includes, among others TVN and this is where the World Cup competitions are now shown. The decision not to sub-license TVP for jumps coincided with the storm surrounding “lex TVN”. There are many voices that this was one of the key premises.
