Dwayne Johnson began his career not in the entertainment industry, but as an athlete. In college, he coached college football, his team from the University of Miami even won the national championship in 1991. Then he worked professionally for a short time, and eventually became a professional wrestler with the nickname The Rock. This is how he won the sympathy of the media and viewers – he won the title of the most charismatic wrestler of the year six times.
Dwayne Johnson – Movies starring The Rock
In the end, The Rock came up with the film industry – in 1999 he appeared in the series “Pink Seventies”, a year later in “Star Trek: Voyager”. As “himself” he also appeared, for example, in the popular children’s series “Hannah Montana”, “Wizards of Weaverly Place” or in “Cory in the White House”. In 2001, he starred as the evil Scorpio King in “The Mummy Returns,” starring Rachel Weisz and Brendan Fraser. It was a debut so successful that The Rock joined Eliot Pag, James McAvoy and Amy Adams on the list of the most promising actors and actresses of the magazine “Entertainment Weekly”.
After a few years, Johnson had his own film “The Scorpio King”, and in 2004 he played the main role in the production of “With Forehead On High” – a remake of a 1973 film whose plot was based on true facts. Johnosn plays a former special forces soldier who, after returning to his homeland, discovers that drug trafficking has flourished in the area, and residents are intimidated by employees of the new casino. The police are doing nothing to defend the innocent, so Sergeant Chris Vaughn must take matters into his own hands.
Another high-profile production with his participation is the movie “The Game Plan”, in which he played the role of a football player who, years later, learns that he has a daughter – the title earned 150 million dollars worldwide. It was not until 2011 that The Rock joined the cast of “Fast and the Furious” – in the fifth installment of this popular series, he played federal agent Luke Hobbs, who becomes an ally and client of the famous team of Dom Torreto over the course of subsequent films. He also returned to this character in “Fast and Furious 6”, “Fast and Furious 7”, “Fast and Furious 8” and “Fast and Furious 9”. For all this, a special spin-off was shot with him in the spotlight, entitled Hobbs and Shaw.
Not only does Johnson have a taste for action movies, he also enjoys appearing in comedy and family productions: later he appeared in, among others, in the spy comedy “Get Smart” opposite the Oscar-winning Anne Hathaway and Steve Carella, and in the family comedy “The Good Fairy” he played the tooth fairy; the comic effect is obvious. He also won the hearts of the audience thanks to his dubbing skills – in Disney’s “Vaiana” he gave his voice to the demigod Maui, which made a new generation of admirers fall in love with him, also thanks to his songs such as “Trinket”.
Interestingly, before The Rock starred in “The Mummy Returns”, he published the autobiography “The Rock Says” in 2000 – again it turned out that people love him, because the book took first place on the New York Times bestseller list. It cannot be denied that his biography is so interesting that it is perfect for a film – Polish viewers can watch the comedy biographical series “Young The Rock” on the web on CANAL PLUS, in which his childhood years were shown. The production has 11 episodes and focuses on how the future star grows up. Dwayne plays himself again and at the same time makes fun of Hollywood – in the script he looks to the future until 2032, when he is running for the president of the USA (such plans were planned for example by rapper Kanye West). As a politician with aspirations, he sits in front of the camera and gives a biographical interview in which he describes the most important and decisive moments in his adolescent life.
The Rock – not only an actor
Dwayne Johnson is also involved in film production – as a producer and co-producer he worked on such films as “Journey to the Mysterious Island”, “Inflitrator”, “Baywatch. Sunny Patrol”, “Jumanji: Adventure in the Jungle”, “Rampage: Wild Fury”, “Skyscraper”, “Fighting With My Family” or “Jumanji: The Next Level” – he also played a role in each of these productions.
