Mauro Gianetti recognizes the merits of Jumbo-Visma in the eleventh stage of the Tour de France 2022. At the end of the Albertville-Col du Granonthe team manager of UAE Team Emirates he didn’t appear particularly disappointed or worried about the time lost by Tadej Pogacar towards Jonas Vingegaard (Jumbo-Visma), to which the Slovenian was also forced to give up the Yellow Jersey. The former Swiss rider then tried to explain why his top man’s debacle, admitting how Pogacar may have spent too much energy on Galibier and how covid has made things more difficult for his team (with two riders forced to go home because they are positive), but also acknowledging that the opposing team was tactically perfect.
“Tadej did particularly well on the Galibier – the words of Gianetti, reported by Wielerflits – There he consumed a lot of energy, perhaps he tried a little too much. But she had to make decisions. He wanted to eliminate some opponents there. It seemed to work, but many riders then returned downhill ”.
“Don’t forget that we were decimated by the retirement of Bennett and Laengen – continued the manager – But Pogacar still had Majka by his side in the final climb. The biggest problem was obviously that Tadej himself had consumed too much energy on the Télégraphe and the Galibierand paid for them in the last five kilometers ”.
Gianetti also ruled out that Pogacar himself could have the covid: “Tadej is in perfect shape. Otherwise he would not have been able to parry so many attacks on Galibier. There are no Covid symptoms either. No, all this is thanks to Vingegaard and his teammates“, The team manager admitted, acknowledging what the Dutch team did:“ All the merits to Jumbo-Visma. They have a strong team. We knew they wouldn’t wait until the end of the week to attack us. The team wrote a great cycling page today. Spectacular, tactically well executed “.
As already stated yesterday by Pogacar himself, the former Swiss rider is already looking to today’s stage ofAlpe d’Huez to seek redemption and to try to make up ground in the standings: “There is still a lot to do. Tomorrow (today, ed) will be the turn of another iconic milestone. We’ll have fun. There will still be a show and of course I would like Tadej to do it“.
