After the preview at Rome Film Festival 2022special event in the Alice nella Città section, from October 27 in Italian cinemas with Sony Pictures and Warner Bros. Entertainment Italia The Talented Mr. Crocodile (Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile), a live-action family film, in the vein of the films of Paddington, starring Javier Bardem, Constance Wu and Amici-winning singer Luigi Strangis who interprets the songs of Lyle the crocodile. The film is based on Bernard Waber’s best-selling book series which tells the story of the crocodile Lyle and his adventures with the Primm family.

Plot and cast

The official plot: When the Primm family (Constance Wu, Scoot McNairy, Winslow Fegley) move to New York, young son Josh struggles to adjust to new school and new friends. Everything changes when he discovers Lyle (Italian voice of Luigi Strangis), a singing crocodile who loves baths, caviar, great music and who lives in the attic of his new house. The two become fast friends, but when Lyle’s existence is threatened by evil neighbor Mr. Grumps (Brett Gelman), the Primms must team up with Lyle’s charismatic owner, Hector P. Valenti (Javier Bardem), to prove to the world that a family can be found in even the most unexpected of situations and that there’s nothing wrong with a big singing crocodile with an even bigger personality.

“The Talented Mr. Crocodile” cast also includes Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes (voice of Lyle the Crocodile), Sal Viscuso, Don DiPetta, Chloe Camp, Lindsey Moser, Mac Wells, Yussie Jupiter, Melisa Lopez, Elijahawon Perrin , Cora Maple Lindell, Zeb Slone, Lyric Hurd, Serge Burack Jr., Danny Salomon, Cate Whitlatch, Niquitta S. Curiosity

  • The film is directed and produced by Will Speck and Josh Gordon who together directed the comedies Blades of Glory – Two skates for glory with Will Ferrell, Two hearts and a test tube with Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman and The party before the holidays with Bateman and Olivia Munn.
  • The Talented Mr. Crocodile screenplay is written by Will Davies (Johnny English, How to Train Your Dragon, Mia and the White Lion and Netflix’s Man vs. Bee TV miniseries) from Bernard Waber’s best-selling book series.
  • The voice in the Italian edition of Lyle the crocodile is by the singer Luigi Strangis, winner of the twenty-first edition of the talent show Amici di Maria De Filippi. Multi-instrumentalist singer, born in Lamezia Terme (Catanzaro). Luigi Strangis enters Amici’s school in September 2021 and during the first episode of the talent show, performing with the unreleased “Vivo”, produced by Brail.
  • Bernard Waber’s books have already been adapted into animated musical film Lyle, Lyle Crocodilewhich aired on HBO on November 18, 1987. This special is also part of the HBO “Storybook Musicals” line-up.

The original book

Bernard Waber (1921 – 2013) was an American children’s author best known for books The House on East 88th Street (1962), Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile (1965) and subsequent books in the “Lyle” series. Waber has written numerous children’s books focusing on animal adventures, including Do You See a Mouse?, Evie and Margie, An Anteater Named Arthur and A Lion Named Shirley Williamsono. His “Lyle” series, which began in 1962, was his best-known series of children’s books. In the books, Lyle is a city crocodile who lives in a bathtub and brings joy to everyone he meets. In 1954, Waber wrote his first picture book My Egg, Your Egg! by Eleanor Estes. Shortly after the attacks of September 11, 2001, Waber writes the book Courage. In the book, through various characters, children are taught the meaning of courage.

The official synopsis of the book: Lyle the crocodile lives in a house on East 88th Street in New York City. Lyle enjoys helping the Primm family with their daily chores and playing with the neighborhood kids. He’s the happiest crocodile a house has ever had, until a neighbor insists that Lyle belongs in a zoo! Grumps and his cat, Loretta, don’t like crocodiles, and everything Lyle does to get them seems to go wrong. It will take all of Lyle’s charm and courage to reveal the hero and friend behind the big alligator grin.
