Farnesina replies to Russia: “They knew of the exclusion from the initiative against weapons of mass destruction”
“The decision not to involve Russian experts in the session currently underway in Rome” of PSI experts was taken “in agreement with the main countries participating in the initiative. In a spirit of transparency, it was announced to the Russian Federation: “the exclusion is motivated not only by the brutal aggression against Ukraine, but also in the light of an increasingly polarizing and non-cooperative attitude” by Moscow in the international forums of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation. This was underlined by the Farnesina, defining the statements released today by the spokesman of the Foreign Ministry as “completely spurious”. The Farnesina, with regard to the “increasingly polarizing and non-cooperative” attitude adopted by Moscow in the main international forums of Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, recalled that the Russian Federation last August had opposed the unanimous approval of the final document of the Conference of the Review of the Non-Proliferation Treaty. Moreover, already in 2014 and 2015, in light of the Russian intervention in Crimea and the developments in the Donbass, the Russian Federation was temporarily excluded from similar exercises, the Farnesina concluded.
