Vanessa lives in fear of seeing them online

The death of NBA star Kobe Bryant and his daughter

Kobe’s wife, Vanessa Bryant, is suing the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and the firefighters who rushed to the scene and took photos of the human remains of ‘black mamba’, daughter Gianna and of the other seven people who died in the disaster. The trial has begun, the sued parties reject the charges.

The death of NBA star Kobe Bryant and his daughter

Why do they have it? Why did the Los Angeles County agents and the Fire Department take close-up photos of the human remains of Kobe Bryant and baby Gianna? Why couldn’t they resist the temptation to have those macabre images on their mobile phones? Vanessa is the wife of the former NBA star who took them all to court. She sued them on charges of taking and sharing those horrible clicks – showing the torn bodies – collected at the scene of the accident that took place on January 26, 2020 and in which seven other people died.

They never ended up in the hands of the media, nor were they ever published but they had no right to do so. But those photos are circulating on at least 40 devices among those belonging to men of the sheriff and firefighters. The widow of ‘black mamba’ denounced a very serious violation of privacy because in reality those moments of the tragedy would have been shown to private individuals in a bar and even in an awards ceremony a few days after the disaster.

“Ms. Bryant lives in fear that she or her children may one day be faced with those terrible photos of their loved ones. They fear they may have been leaked online.”

Kobe Bryant’s legacy causes his wife Vanessa and her mother Sofia to quarrel

The case erupted when the sheriff’s deputy intern, Joey Cruz, allegedly showed the images to a Norwalk, Calif. The report of a patron, Ralph Mendez, who admitted overhearing the conversation, is the spark that sparked the fire. That witness will not be heard because he has not seen those shots but it is one of the dark points of the story.

The defensive line of the county is one: there has been no violation of privacy or crime because those photos, in which there were the corpses of Kobe and his daughter, were never published online or publicly disclosed according to the standards set by the law. And they were canceled by the agents and the police themselves after the report. The memory of that dramatic day, however, remains. In the accessory kit of pain there is also this aspect, that question that has never been answered. Why did they do it?
