Venice Film Festival 2022, the guide (day by day) with unmissable events

There 79th Venice International Film Festival (August 31 – September 10) is about to open its doors. And, after the announcement of the program, it reveals the details of the appointments with the films of the various sections (the ticket office opens today 17 August at 3 pm) and the events to mark on the calendar.
Between big Hollywood celebs and epic stories, this edition represents one of the richest in recent years and already betting on which title is the favorite for the Oscar race. The award season (the award season) begins right at the Lido, at the court of already established filmmakers or new voices.

Here, then, is a daily vademecum with the most important events, on the big screen but also outside. Thursday 1st September

There are two events to keep an eye on in the competition. First of all the divine Cate Blanchettwho plays the first German conductor in Tar (in Italian cinemas on November 3), in one of the most anticipated performances. And then Bardsigned by the Argentine Alejandro G. Inarritu (on Netflix by the end of the year), on the crisis of a Mexican documentary maker. Orizzonti, on the other hand, offers the biopic Veraabout the actress Vera Gemma.

Friday 2 September

Abel Ferrara presents his Father Pio with Shia LaBeouf (the actor, however, will not be at the Lido) in the Days of the Authorswhile the Competition unveils one of the most anticipated titles, Bones and All from Luca Guadagninowith his pupil Timothée Chalamet struggling with a story of teen cannibalism.

Saturday 3rd September

The documentary All the Beauty and the Bloodshed by Laura Poitras on the photographer Nan GoldinLGBT + champion, presents itself as one of the most impactful stories of the Competition, together with Argentina, 1985 with Ricardo Darin, on the trial of the military of the dictatorship of the time. They also intrigue the latest transformation of the ethereal Isabelle Huppert in The syndicalist (for Orizzonti) and the horror turn of My Goth in Pearl (Out of competition).

In the evening the Hotel Excelsior on the Lido hosts both the meeting Cinema and fashionorganized by the Cruciani maison that the Kineo Awardwhich confers a poker of recognitions to the young revelations (Chiara Vinci, Jacopo Olmo Antinori, Alessandro Piavani and Claudia Marchiori).

Sunday 4th September

Elodie debuts at the cinema with I eat your heart from Goofy Mezzapesa next to Giovanni Anzaldo (Horizons), while two of the five Italian films are scheduled for competition today. Penelope Cruz (Volpi Cup 2021) is at the service of The immensity from Emanuele Crialese (in the hall from September 15th) e Patricia Clarkson for Monica from Andrea Pallaoro. The visionary Darren Aronofskyinstead, engage Brendar Fraser for The Whale.
The first of the two days dedicated to Miu Miu Women’s Talesthe female projects presented at the Authors’ Days.

Monday 5th September

Although out of competition, perhaps the event of the festival remains: Don’t Worry Darling from Olivia Wildea futuristic project in which her boyfriend directs Harry Styles. Before the screening, the costume designer Arianne Phillips is awarded the prize Campari Passion for Film.
In competition, however, Colin Farrell stages the Irish drama about a broken friendship, The spirits of the island (in the hall from February 2, 2023). Carolina Cavalli debuts behind the camera with the female story of Amanda (Horizons Extra), which also boasts in the cast Benedetta Porcaroli.

Tuesday 6 September
