Although the iPhone 13 did not introduce revolutionary novelties, because it is only an evolution of the iPhone 12, Apple cannot complain about its popularity. Contrary to Xiaomi which felt it strongly.
Apple was not prepared for the sale of the iPhone 13
As Apple has a very limited offering, customers don’t have much choice. This makes every iPhone sell very well – maybe only except for the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini models, which do not enjoy the popularity expected by the manufacturer (which will result in the fact that next year the next “mini” will not appear on the market. market).
The iPhone 13, despite the fact that it did not bring any revolutionary changes, and the largest, visible at first glance, the “smaller” notch, sells very well. What’s more, customers often have to wait many weeks for their copy because Apple is unable to deliver enough items to stores.
For example on the official website of Apple, in the case of the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max smartphones, there is information about the delivery within 2 to 3 weeks, regardless of the selected color and memory version (even the most expensive one for PLN 8199 with 1 TB of built-in memory). Global availability is said to only improve in February 2022.
The huge popularity of the iPhone 13 has weakened Xiaomi’s position in the smartphone segment
In the third quarter of 2021, Xiaomi delivered 43.9 million smartphones to the global market and according to Canalys, during this period it was the third largest producer of these devices in the world with a share of 13.5% (-7% year on year). The revenue from their sale amounted to USD 47.8 billion, and the margin was 12.8% (it was by 4.4 percentage points higher than in the corresponding period a year earlier).
Wang Xiang, president of Xiaomi Group, admitted that the company’s position in the smartphone segment in the third quarter of 2021 weakened mainly due to the huge popularity of the iPhone 13. However, this was not the only reason for the worse results – a shortage of chips also contributed to the big contribution. According to estimates, they reduced the supply of Chinese brand smartphones by 10 to even 20 million units.
However, the company also has many reasons to be satisfied, because in foreign markets (i.e. excluding China) the number of delivered smartphones at a price equal to or above EUR 300 has increased by 180% year on year.
